Shuswap River Waterthreads
Through the winter and early spring of 2024, participants met in communities along the Shuswap River Watershed to hand embroider a large map of the watershed.
Groups in Lumby, Enderby, Mara, Ashton Creek, Armstrong/Spallumcheen, Silver Star and Sicamous worked on the project in regular embroidery meetings.
Once the hand embroidery work was completed, Marie Thomas, a Splatsin Elder, with the assistance of Teresa Christian hand beaded the Shuswap River.
On the afternoon of September 22nd, we held a celebration with participants and an unveiling for the community. We shared our love of the Shuswap River watershed and its many features, along with snacks and refreshments. Musical accompaniment by Jake Verburg and James Clark.
We are excited to share this large map (approx. 7.5 ft by 11 ft) with local communities. Please email info@runawaymoon.org for more information about sharing the map with your community or group.
